Results From a Survey of Cancer Survivors…

A large number of respondents with breast cancer allowed their data to be divided into three time frames based on time since diagnosis: 01- year, 2-5 years and 6-20 years.

Interesting to note how hair and skin issues are of priority during 0-1 year of diagnosis, and it appears eleventh (11th) on the list in the 2-5 year time frame. For a more comprehensive listing, COE graduates can access this information in our student library.

0-1 year since diagnosis:
Hair and skin issues
Hot flashes
Fear of recurrence
Fatigue
Defining a new sense of normal

2-5 years since diagnosis:
Hot flashes
Peripheral neuropathy
Fear of recurrence
Financial concerns
Debt from medical bills

This is clearly evident that support and guidance from certified Oncology estheticians/skin care therapists can play a really important role in every person’s life, even during this time of diagnosis and treatment.
