This reinforces what I’ve been saying for years about poor quality training, or lack of training – the risks involved. According to this article law suits are increasing for laser treatments.
Staff working for physicians which include physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, aestheticians, and technicians were laser operators or supervisors in 20% of cases. That is a high number!
The most common injuries were burns (47%), scars (39%), and hypo- or hyperpigmentation (24%).
The researchers of this article offered suggestions to reduce the risk of a lawsuit from skin laser surgery, including ensuring proper training and supervising delegated tasks. How well the skin is being evaluated is also a key question as well as the correct laser parameters.
