Our recent Oncology Esthetics Foundation Training was held in Calgary, AB last month. Usually on the West Coast, we have facilitated trainings in Vancouver, BC in the past. Due to the determination of Gayle Morton, this finally became a reality. When there is a will, there is a way. Despite really bad weather conditions, we had full attendance each day, including a superb turnout of people living with cancer. Our appreciation to CancerChic for being part of this event.
Cancer Chic was developed by two young female cancer survivors – Karla Laing and Heather Alvas – in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 2011. Currently they offer interactive workshops for women who are living with cancer. The topics covered are current and relevant not only because this is a growing cohort of cancer patients, but because they engage in topical and popular concerns such as being “green”, health conscious, and being mindful in their life choices.
It is their hope to encourage everyone participating to live life fully, even during treatment, and they wish to prove that there is life to look forward to after cancer.
